What It Takes to Build a Successful Offshore Contact Center Business
Offshore outsourcing in Costa Rica call center facilities is a manifestation of the ever increasing global community. If you are planning to build a successful business in this industry, you need to have the best location, people, facilities, capital, and the right knowledge base to instill confidence in your potential clients.
This is your top priority when setting up a contact center offshore or in setting up any BPO, BFO business. Look at the location’s pool of available and qualified workforce and population density. The more populated a location, the more likely that labor or general employee wages are cheaper than their U.S. or European counterparts. Thus, a robust population is what contact centers look for. It is a plus if a good percentage of this large population is also educated. There are many places with a high percentage of educated population. Costa Rica for example is a country where the population has one of the highest literacy rates in the world and outsourcing contact center employees is plentiful. The influx of US Expats as well as companies such as HP, Intel, Amazon.com have built entire departments offshore in Costa Rica.
Cultural compatibility is another element that is particularly important. There should be a high level of cultural compatibility as well as knowledge of the English language. This is again another element that gives Costa Rica that edge as a great outsourcing location. Familiarity with culture is particularly important because this is a business that is centered on communication. If there is a cultural barrier then your customer trust will not be built which is the most important thing for any business that needs customer management services.
There are many places where there are large populations that can speak or be educated in the English language but little or no available facilities and locations. In Costa Rica, for example, call centers are located in 4 of the country’s 7 provinces. They range in sizes of a few 100 employees all the way to a few 1,000. Hewlett Packard for example has over 5,000 Costa Rican employees. Newly industrialized countries like Costa Rica are great for setting up outsourcing industries because they have newly built infrastructures such as telecommunication lines and office buildings in business hubs.
Considering your costs is perhaps the next most important detail a BPO or BFO business should consider when looking for the best geographic location for setting up their offices. After all, why else would businesses go to outsourcing sources if they will not save that much money anyway? Places with low wages are the target of course. Labor is one of the most expensive business costs. Also, low costs in housing, space rents, and utilities should be considered carefully. Of course this is not the only most important factor, but this sure constitutes more than fifty percent of the deciding factors for choosing the right location for setting up BPO’s such as contact center industries.
Right now, Costa Rica is exploding as one of the premier locations for BPO, BFO and employee outsourcing. It’s in the top 10 most desirable places to live in the world and 50,000 Expats already call Costa Rica home. Costa Rica has all of these aforementioned elements that make a great call center business destination.
